Calor Customer Spotlight: The Armada Hotel

Armada Hotel Co Clare

The Armada Hotel, a Calor BioLPG customer, is an award-winning hotel located in West Co. Clare overlooking the stunning coastline of Spanish Point beach. The hotel has been operated by the Burke family for over 50 years.

The Armada is ideally located for a jam-packed adventure filled break on the Wild Atlantic Way and there are plenty of activities to keep visitors to the Armada busy. Guests can experience golfing and surfing at Spanish Point and explore one of the many attractions such as Loop Head, the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren.

If weather permits, you can spend the day taking in the beautiful landscape of the Aran islands. For those who prefer to relax, you can unwind in the hotel’s beach front restaurant and indulge in some delicious food, whilst taking in the breath-taking panoramic views of Spanish Point beach.

Sustainability is central to the ethos at the Armada Hotel. The hotel received the highest accreditation under the Green Hospitality Awards programme after successfully reducing their energy consumption by almost a third and reducing their waste to local landfill by over 60%.

The Armada team has introduced a number of sustainability initiatives around the hotel including the elimination of single use plastics, compostable takeaway food containers, removal of plastics from packaging of hotel slippers and minimising their use of paper where possible throughout the hotel. The Armada provides onsite charging facilities for electric vehicles and encourages guests to refill their own water bottle at the many fresh water re-filling stations around the hotel.

The Armada operates its own farm, located just 3.5km from the hotel grounds with fresh herbs and vegetables for the hotel’s kitchens and plots for staff to grow their own produce. To facilitate the cleanest form of growing, the hotel operates a ‘no-dig’ policy to ensure they are being kind to the environment. Fresh seaweed is also sourced locally to feed the soil with the best ingredients to grow the most flavoursome vegetables.

The Armada Hotel has been a Calor customer for the past five years. The Armada uses Calor BioLPG, our 100% renewable energy to power their kitchens.

Speaking about the hotel’s sustainability, John Burke, Owner commented; We are so proud of how far we have come on our sustainability journey to date and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve next. Making the switch to Calor BioLPG has been an important part of our journey and it’s a great feeling to know that we are using 100% renewable energy to power our busy kitchens.”

For homeowners who want to make a difference, you can choose Calor BioLPG, our 100% renewable gas. If you make the move to Calor BioLPG before August 31st, you will receive a €250 / £250 hotel voucher for one of our participating hotels, including The Armada.
