Calor Announce Proud Sponsorship of Revolution Cycling Club

Calor is delighted to announce its sponsorship of Revolution Cycling Club. The Mallow-based cycling club and Calor joined forces earlier this year. This support is proving vital at a time when local sport clubs and community groups are struggling to maintain funding.

Revolution Cycling Club is a cornerstone of sporting life for its members in Mallow. Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, the club played a key role in supporting the people of the area and encouraging people of all abilities to be active.

Physical activity connectivity and engagement with other people are key components of a person’s overall physical and mental well-being. To create an outlet for fitness during the pandemic and to maintain community spirit, Revolution Cycling Club came up with a number of initiatives for members and non-club members.

Among the activities the club organised was a photo competition through the club’s members WhatsApp group. The theme was “Me and My Bike” which featured creative images captured by members with their bikes.

For non-members, the club began a Couch to 50k training programme at the start of August and a second session at the start of September. The programme was aimed at people who want to try to improve their cycling, and also be more confident and safe on their bike. The uptake surpassed the club’s expectations and places where immediately filled, by 100% eager female cyclist, which is great for Cycling Ireland’s female cycling campaign #bikelikeme.

In conjunction with Cork Bike Week and Cork Sports Partnership the club ran free bike maintenance workshop in the evening for one hour which were well attended. And not forgetting the future budding cyclists, RCC Mallow who also have a very active youth program and are trained on a weekly basis by club leaders.

The activities have the additional benefit of providing a social and leisure outlet for people during a challenging period when many people are balancing work from home, minding children, or managing loneliness. The evidence of this can be seen by the growth in the club membership over the past months.

The partnership between Calor and Revolution Cycling Club was facilitated by Mark Cronin, a Calor bulk driver in Tivoli, Co. Cork. Mark is a coach and an elected officer Chairman with Revolution Cycling Club.

Calor has delivered gas to homes and businesses around the island for over 80 years and remains committed to supporting local communities. Sponsorship of the Revolution Cycling Club is a fantastic opportunity to give back to those communities who have supported the company over the years.

Revolution Cycling Club, with riders of all ages, have resumed some of their activities. For more information check out the club’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/revolutioncyclingclub/.
