Mass Balance explained

This is a common practice for the supply and distribution of renewable fuels which is used to ensure that the supply chain is as efficient as possible. BioLPG is delivered as a 100% pure biofuel into Ireland and as it is chemically identical to conventional LPG, the two fuels once in Ireland are mixed, stored and delivered together. Distribution is fully audited and only the amount of renewable fuel which goes into the supply chain can be sold. Learn more about Mass Balance in the below video.

Frequently asked questions

BioLPG is a renewable form of LPG. While conventional LPG is derived from fossil fuels, BioLPG is produced from a blend of sustainably sourced waste materials and renewable vegetable oils. This renewable aspect makes BioLPG a greener option, reducing carbon emissions and environmental impact.
BioLPG can be produced in several ways depending on the feedstock and process. Currently, the main production method is the biodiesel production process. This process generates a by-product of BioLPG. During the refining process, a variety of waste ‘off-gases’ are produced that contain propane or BioLPG. This co-product is then purified to make it identical to conventional propane. BioLPG reduces greenhouse gas emissions and promotes sustainability.
Calor BioLPG is approved in accordance with the European Union Renewable Energy Directive (‘EU-RED’) and is a fully traceable renewable fuel. The production of BioLPG is compliant with the sustainability requirements of ‘EU-RED’ on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources. BioLPG has been approved by UK government as a sustainable renewable fuel and with the Irish Government which means that it is exempt from Carbon Tax.

Switching to BioLPG offers several benefits for both consumers and businesses. BioLPG can reduce carbon emissions by up to 72%*. BioLPG provides energy security by diversifying fuel sources and reducing reliance on finite fossil fuels. Additionally, BioLPG offers consistent performance and reliability, ensuring reliable energy supply for heating, cooking, and other applications.
