Celebrating a fantastic partner – John Comer

Posted Nov 19, 2018

As we celebrate over 80 years in business, we are reminded of the strong communities all over the island of Ireland who have played such an important role in making our business a success. One person who deserves particular thanks in this regard is John Comer, owner of John Comer’s Garage situated on Barrack St, Dunmore, Co. Galway.

We are delighted to announce a special recognition award for long-time Calor retailer, partner and friend, John Comer. John is the second generation of his family to run the business, having taken over from his late father Jimmy and mother Kitty. His father opened the shop in 1950 fixing bicycles and selling Kosangas; establishing themselves as the only Kosangas agent in Dunmore at that time. Between father and son, Calor and Kosangas cylinders have been sold at the same location for 75 years.

John Comer’s Garage on Barrack Street holds many cherished memories for John, and for the community of Dunmore. With eight children reared up above the premises, and the untimely loss of one brother, John returned to Barrack Street after attending Roscrea boarding school for secondary level, to run the family business where he continued to serve the local community.

John has powered homes and businesses in his locality by supplying Calor Gas for many years, always treating his customers to the highest level of service. In more recent years, he had expanded the business offering and even installed a fuel pump at the front of the house, to optimise convenience for his customers.

Now that the time has come for John to close his business, we feel extremely grateful that John has been our link to Tuam and Dunmore for all these years. Fergal Magee, Calor Sales Representative presented a special recognition award to John on Thursday 18th October 2018. From all of us at Calor, a huge thank you to you John, for housing our Calor cylinders in your most well-loved shop, for keeping Calor’s flame burning bright in Tuam and Dunmore, and indisputably, for providing such a fantastic service to the local community for decades.
